Account blocking

Since November 2003, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority has had the right under Section 6a of the German Banking Act (KWG) to prohibit banks from issuing (payment) orders relating to certain accounts held with it. This power was introduced in the wake of terrorist financing. – See Address Spoofing, Observation Note, Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering, Money Laundering, Identity Theft, Account Disclosure, Account, False, Customer Data Information Obligation. – See BaFin Annual Report 2003, p. 72, BaFin Annual Report 2007, p. 216 (inquiries from law enforcement agencies), and the respective BaFin Annual Report, chapter “Cross-Sectional Tasks.”
