Unauthorized telephone order

Persons contact an institution by telephone, posing as its customers and placing orders to purchase questionable over-the-counter securities. This causes the price of these securities to rise. The perpetrators take advantage of this to sell their own shares of these securities at a profit. The perpetrators identify themselves to the bank accepting the order with information that they have previously obtained by trickery from the actual securities account holders. – See stock market letters, bull raid, trades, collusive, financial vultures, price manipulation, market activity, feigned, market manipulation, Pairoff, pump and dump, scalping, sham purchase, sham transactions, wash sales. – Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2013, p. 169 (BaFin warning against this fraud segment).
