Rule maker also standard setter; self-regulatory organization (SRO)

Expert bodies, advisory boards, committees and commissions that propose rules (standards) for procedures in the financial market. These are then introduced by legislators or supervisory authorities as generally applicable rules. Standard setters in this sense also include all commissions that develop and propose guidelines for accounting in accordance with IFRS or US GAAP. – Expert committees in associations that define binding rules of behavior (mandatory rules of conduct) for all members. In the financial market, these are primarily requirements for honest dealings with clients (an SRO’s first concern is to protect investors through the creation of rules that support ethics and equality). – See supervisory discussions, impact studies, calls for advice, Financial Stability Board, IFRS, information overload.
