Nominal value (face value, par value)
Unless otherwise defined, this refers to the amount for which a debt instrument – a security such as a share – is denominated (the amount of money the issuer received for each paper and the amount that has to be repaid upon redemption), the nominal value. This must be distinguished from the market value, which is the market price of the debt instrument. – See Façon, net asset value, nominal.
