Considered by many to be the seed of the subprime crisis, this law was passed in the USA in 1975. It required banks and other lenders to maintain a database of their home loans. This included information on the race, gender, financial data of the applicant and the county of residence of the desired property. – Analysis of the relevant records showed that home ownership appeared to discriminate against certain groups and neighborhoods. Therefore, the Community Reinvestment Act, enacted in 1977, and the Homeownership and Opportunity for People Everywhere (HOPE) program of 1990, targeted housing loans to low-income classes. This was because ownership for minority groups was seen as an important means of alleviating social tensions. Low-income households and even the unemployed found it very easy to obtain home ownership as a result of these support measures. – The banks bundled the loans in question, converted them into securitized securities and sold individual tranches worldwide, including to German institutions. When the new owners of residential property were no longer able or willing to meet their repayment and interest obligations, the securitized securities became worthless. The holders of these securities had to carry on losses. – See Absence capitalism, Payoff assistance, Collateral value, Community Reinvestment Act, Loans, nonstandard, Loan liability, limited, De-capitalization, Erstrate default clause, Home equity loan, Real estate prices, Immoblien supplemental lending, Jingle mail, Lending rule, air securities, luxury consumption, mortgage equity withdrawal, ninja loans, originate-to-distribute strategy, panic selling, paper, toxic, real credit, throwback effect, overconsumption, submarine effect, home ownership, interest deferral, lemon trading, special purpose vehicle, twenty-two-eight credit.
