On a debt instrument in general and a bill of exchange in particular, the indication of an address which stands in for the obligor in the event of non-payment. – Papers with an emergency address were – and still are today – widely regarded with a certain suspicion. This is because it is reasonable to assume that the debtor indicated is unable or unwilling to pay when due. – See drawer, drawee.
