According to Section 386 of the German Civil Code (BGB), a general acknowledgement of receipt of a service rendered, in the narrower sense in the financial sector of a payment made (a written acknowledgment that something of value was received). – Even today, the word receipt is usually still associated with a paper document, including a printed cash register slip. When payment is received electronically, it is usually referred to as a confirmation of payment. – See Acquit.
