Underperformer (also usually referred to in German as “Unterdurchschnittlicher”, “Niete”, “Looser” and “Versager”)

An investment that produces a smaller return than other similar investments. – A share that underperforms the related stock index (a share that falls below the common run). – A company that performs below the average of its industry (a company if it does worse than the average return of its industry). – An underperforming employee. Such employees, however, are not to be found at German institutions. Here, all bankers are highly motivated, even without the prospect of fat bonuses. Only the very best get to the central bank and the supervisory authority thanks to excellent personnel selection. In addition, most of the more demanding positions are decided by the political parties anyway. This automatically ensures that only the most qualified men and women get into the relevant positions, and that they get along well with the expert staff working for them. – See high flyer, hot spot, crocodile, lemons problem, low performer, market performer, performance, outperformance, Peter rule, tenu-slamper, deadwood, turnover brake, accident refugee.
