Perpetuals (dead hand estate)
In old documents, endowment capital was earmarked for a specific purpose and was not subject to commercial transactions in that it could neither be sold nor lent. However, the assets – primarily land, forests, bodies of water, and the generic term “real estate” – could be leased out for commercial use: Realities – could be leased for economic use. – See amortization, benefit money, fideïkommiss, soft money, endowment fund.
