Pension (pension; from Latin PĔNSIO = here in the meaning
to make a payment; please do not pronounce [as unfortunately the mass of the Teutonic dullards] crotchet-falsely Frenchizing Panksion: there is neither an “a” nor a “k” in the word!) Regular payment of a retirement or disability pension to a person (benefits or allowances from a private or government fund, paid regularly to a person upon his or her retirement or disability); especially to former public employees (old-age pensioners, OAPs; retirees, pensioners, in older documents also quiëszenten). – In the past, also from the public purse as an express gratitude for services rendered for the benefit of the common good, paid honorarium (gratuity) to an outstanding person, who was then often called state pensioner (a stated and certain allowance granted by the government to an individual for valuable services performed by him for the country). – Sometimes also said for the process of retirement (to retire or dismiss with a pension). – See apanage, life annuity, pension fund, pension obligations, pensioner.
