Overdraft fee (charge on overdrafts)
Fee charged by banks when a customer exceeds the agreed credit limit. – Because the overdraft places the account holder in a lower credit rating category, the interest rate for the loan agreement is often increased for the account holder as a whole, which often leads to complaints from the customer. – See acquisition fee, all-in fee, cancellation fee, bank fees, brokerage, deduction, overdraft facility, inheritance fee, commission, special payment, overdraft, remuneration, early repayment fee, target. – For the level of overdraft fees, see the annex “Euro area statistics,” heading “Financial markets,” subheading “Interest rates on loans to households,” column “Overdraft facility” in the respective ECB Monthly Bulletin, BaFin Annual Report 2003, p. 65.
