Numbered account (number[ed] account, number custody account)

Any account at a bank that is not kept under the name and address of the customer, but solely under the account number. When the account is opened, however, an identity check is carried out – in contrast to the anonymous account. The connection between the account number and the respective account holder is known only to a small circle of a bank’s employees (only a few members of the executive staff know the identity of the customer; the other employees have no way of knowing who an account belongs to based on a number). – In Germany, numbered accounts are prohibited under Section 154, Paragraph 2 AO. – See Address Spoofing, Authentication Requirement, Money, Dirty, Money Laundering, Hawala, Identity Verification Requirement, Information Requirement, Innominate, Account Disclosure, Account Blocking, Account, Anonymous, Nominee, Offshore Financial Centers, Pasion Trap, Registration Money, Payment Transactions Ordinance, Interest Information Ordinance, Second ID.
