Cheque access block

As a rule, customers cannot dispose of a check deposited with the bank until a certain period of time has elapsed. In Germany, this is up to ten banking workdays, and up to one month in the case of checks drawn on a foreign institution. In response to repeated consumer complaints, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority declared this to be appropriate. – Cf. BaFin’s 2007 Annual Report, p. 219 (explaining the reason for the freeze). – See collection period.
