Travel insurance
A generic term for any type of insurance taken out in connection with a trip. The term “travel” covers both a change of location itself and the stay at the destination. A distinction is made between various individual contracts, such as travel resignation cost insurance, travel medical insurance, travel legal protection insurance and travel luggage insurance. Such policies are offered by insurance companies, credit card issuers and travel clubs. Providers of travel insurance of any kind require the permission of the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). – Cf. 2012 Annual Report of BaFin, p. 227 f. (complaints about non-transparent contracts).
