Lisbon strategy

The Lisbon Strategy was a Union-wide reform programme agreed by EU leaders in 2000. It established a broad framework for modernising economic and social policy, with the aim of strengthening European competitiveness and developing a knowledge-driven economy. Rather than prescribing a single measure, it brought together structural policy priorities to guide reform across the European Union. Europe 2020 subsequently replaced it as the Union’s strategic framework.
