Long-term interest rates describe the return on, or financing cost of, financial claims that mature after a comparatively extended period. A sovereign bond with ten years remaining until repayment is frequently used as a reference for this segment of the yield curve. The measure may be expressed either as an interest rate or as a bond yield.
