designated system

In the European settlement-finality regime, a designated system is an officially recognized arrangement for processing payments or transferring securities whose status has been reported by the relevant national authorities under Directive 98/26/EC. That recognition allows the system to benefit from the directive's rules concerning the legal effectiveness and irrevocability of qualifying settlement instructions.
