Overdraft (budget overrun, overspending,)
The withdrawal from an account in excess of the balance or line of credit granted by the bank (the amount of a paid check or other withdrawal exceeds the available balance in a checking account). – The extension of expenditures beyond the revenues in the budget (the amount by which expenditures and encumbrances exceed the current allotment to which they are chargeable), especially to – a government agency or – an entity managing allocated budgetary funds, such as a church, health insurance fund, university or health fund, – a community such as a consortium, association, corporation, club, cooperative, foundation, or – or an enterprise and its divisions subject to precise financial planning. – See overdraft facility, Stability and Growth Pact, overdraft, template.
