## Definition

from American English invaded term for a ridiculous sum, for an amount far below the expectations of the payee, as it were only a few grains (small change; a trivial or inconsequential amount of money; this American expression, which dates from before 1840, is an allusion to the scraps and seeds fed to chickens). - See fountain money, money terms, vernacular German-language, Gequetschte, chicken feed, Kleingeld, Lappalien, peanuts.
