## Definition

As defined in Article 282 TFEU, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the national central banks of those European Union Member States whose currency is the EUR. - Only when all EU Member States have switched to the EUR will the term "Eurosystem" become synonymous with European System of Central Banks (ESCB). Nevertheless, people are already talking about the monetary policy of the ESCB, and they mean - as a rule! - that of the Eurosystem. - See euro area, euro group, euro area countries, General Council, dispute over rules of procedure. - See ECB Annual Report 1998, p. 126, and ECB Monthly Bulletin May 1999, p. 33, ECB Monthly Bulletin January 2012, p. 65 (explaining definition of "Eurosystem").
