## Definition

Based on ongoing Internet surveys conducted by the investment company Sentix in Frankfurt/Main, it explores the extent to which respondents expect the EMU to break up as a result of the departure of a member. This is used to calculate an index whose changes over time can be used to draw conclusions about the credibility of the ECB's policy. - Particularly in the environment of the ECB, the index is regarded as nonsense and reference is made to the allegedly questionable way in which the assessments are made. In contrast, the Euro Breakup Index enjoys a high degree of trust among financial journalists and in wide circles of the financial community. - See Animal Spirits, Behavioural Finance, Expectancy Theory, new, financial psychology, fear theory, sentiment, sentiment indicators, confidence bubble, predictive power, leading indicators, foreshadow effects.
