## Definition

European central counterparty for trading in credit default swaps opened in Frankfurt am Main at the end of July 2009 at the insistence of the EU Commission. The company is a subsidiary of Deutsche Börse AG and the Swiss Stock Exchange. In addition to Eurex Clear, the U.S. but European-owned International Securities Exchange also serves as a central counterparty in the financial market. The settlement of trades is based on a voluntary basis in Europe. However, business partners must deposit collateral with the two clearing houses according to a certain key. This is intended to ensure that each party only assumes as much risk as it can manage. - See Derivatives clearing obligation, General collateral repos, Euro general collateral pooling, Node.
