## Definition

Money surrogate issued by private initiative in certain districts, especially in Germany after the introduction of the euro. Its circulation is restricted to a geographically defined area and to the group of people who agree to accept it. Regional money is not valid and its legal admissibility is disputed. - Because of many disadvantages of this form of payment and because of the obtrusive adherence to ideologies (ideology understood here as a network of prejudices and evaluations, arising from ignorance, lack of understanding, prejudice, bossiness, stubbornness and resentment) on the part of most issuers such as opponents of the euro, globalization critics, supporters of shrinkage money, angry citizens, know-it-alls, busybodies), regional money will remain a marginal phenomenon despite loud propaganda (will remain on the fringe of payment transactions; will continue to be a marginal phenomenon). Until now, regional money can only be exchanged back into EUR with a deduction. The use of seigniorage is also largely unclear. - See coinage balance, Europhobia, secret money, money home, money purpose, coinage profit, secondary currency, net money, fading money, infertility theory, economic patriotism.
