## Definition

In ethics, the guiding principle of all action, including action and inaction on the financial market: namely, to avoid doing to others what you would not want them to do to you (the precept of doing to others as we would have them do to us). - In fiscal policy, the requirement that public deficits must not exceed public investment. Violation of this rule threatens inflation and stagnation; proper monetary policy becomes impossible. - In the case of pension funds, the stipulation that interest on retirement assets not exceed the rate of inflation. - See deficit ratio, fiscal policy, fiscal referendum, monetary policy, monetary value, budget deficit, debt brake, Stability and Growth Pact. - Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of April 2005, pp. 23 ff. Attention: The financial encyclopedia is protected by copyright and may only be used for private purposes without express consent!
