## Definition

Unless otherwise defined, in financial language, one hundredth of one percent, i.e., one basis point = 0.01 percent (one hundredth of 1 percent = 0.01 percent). - When "points" are used in connection with prices, rates, yields, etc., one basis point is usually meant. - Often this designation - i.e. "point" - is criticized because it can lead to misunderstandings (dot, item, spot, pixel).
