## Definition

Informal discussion group of globally active banks with the purpose of negotiating jointly and with a single voice on debt rescheduling programs with sovereigns that do not meet their payment obligations. The club has no fixed meeting place and no secretariat. London was an obvious choice for the name because almost all internationally active banks are represented there, and because most debt restructuring negotiations initially took place there. - See Brady bonds, international financial institution, Paris Club, Prague proclamation, debt repayment mechanism, independent, sovereign debt, denied.
