## Definition

Goals formulated by the European Council in 2000 for the EU as a whole. According to these goals, the European Union is to become the most competitive and change-friendly economic area in the world. Achieving these goals would also make the EUR the most sought-after currency in the world in the long run. In reality, however, these goals are unlikely to be achieved within the foreseeable future and, due to the unfavorable age ratio in the EU, also in the medium and long term. - At the end of 2007, the Lisbon Agenda was updated and four priority targets were set for the period 2008 to 2010, namely - knowledge and innovation, - business potential, - labor markets and - energy security. - See age dependency ratio, demographic rigidification, Europe 2020, coordination, European economic policy, Stability and Growth Pact, aging. - Cf.
