## Definition

The investment in money or assets made in a venture by a company, fund, or crowdfunding. - The advance payment for an obligation to make a payment, usually arising from a contract; in older documents also called a deposit and ingeld. - The security deposit that an investor must provide when purchasing securities on credit (bail money; Haftgeld); this is intended to ensure compliance with contractually assumed obligations. - Amount which must be deposited by buyers and sellers of futures contracts and option sellers as collateral in the form of cash or paper. - When buying futures, the investor does not have to pay the entire price of the underlying asset, but only a certain percentage of it. This is usually between three and ten percent. This means that a considerable volume can be moved with relatively small sums. The investor thus makes use of leverage. - See deposit, cash margin, derivatives, principal deposit, leverage, inmoney, option, quantum, commodity futures contract.
