## Definition

Security issued by banks as a debt obligation, usually with a fixed interest rate. - The Deutsche Bundesbank divides bank debt securities into - mortgage Pfandbriefe (formerly known as Pfandbriefe), which also include ship mortgage Pfandbriefe, - public Pfandbriefe (formerly known as Kommunalobligationen; communal bonds): debt securities issued by special purpose credit institutions (such as Deutsche Ausgleichsbank, Deutsche Bau- und Bodenbank or Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) and - other bank debt securities (such as bearer bonds or commercial papers issued by banks). - These issues are recorded statistically. However, there are as yet no customer statistics for the euro area.
