## Definition

In Germany, the term used to refer to a town or city in which the Landeszentralbank maintained a branch. In such places, it was easier to obtain cash immediately; the stock of cash could therefore be kept lower. This locational advantage was temporarily offset by a higher minimum reserve for institutions in banking centers. - A place (e.g. Frankfurt, London, New York) or a country (e.g. Luxembourg, Switzerland) where an above-average number of institutions are represented, also known as a financial center. - See bank forex, non-bank center, interest island.
