## Definition

Term that emerged with the subprime crisis and expresses the classification (triage from the French verb "trier" = to sort, to arrange) of institutions into - A banks: these are healthy and do not require government assistance, - B banks: they must be recapitalized so that they can then continue to exist largely as before, and - C banks: they must be restructured and partially wound up. In dealing with these category C institutions, a procedure is needed that comes close to insolvency but takes systemic risks into account and eliminates domino effects altogether as far as possible. - See Bank Rescue Act, Hypo Real Estate Rescue, Sifi Oligopoly.
