## Definition

Unless otherwise defined, this refers to a company's lower profit in relation to sales over the course of time. - As a rule, reduced profits make access to debt capital more expensive. This is because lending banks will assess the company's creditworthiness lower and charge a higher interest rate. - See financing premium, external. - Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report, January 2012, p. 15 f. (Decline in profits in the business cycle makes debt capital more expensive).
