## Definition

Ratio formed by dividing the dividend per share by the current (stock market) price (ratio between the last dividend per share paid and the price per share). - However, it merely indicates the return (rate of profit in the terminology of older national economics) on the capital invested by the investor in his portfolio. Of course, this indicator cannot contain any further information, although this is often claimed - even in textbooks. However, it is possible to compare the dividend yield with the market rate of return on a bond, and in this way it is possible to make a rough comparison of the advantage of an investment. - See dividend pearl. - Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report July 2009, p. 25 (dividend yield of Dax stocks since 1991).
