## Definition

A central bank collateral management system in which counterparties place assets in a pool as collateral for their operations with the central bank in general. - Unlike an earmarking system, a pooling system does not earmark collateral as cover for very specific transactions. - See Pooling. - Cf. ECB Monthly Bulletin, October 2007, pp. 93 et seq. (comparing collateral arrangements at the ECB with the U.S. and Japan; many overviews).
