## Definition

An ordinary share that entitles the holder to all rights under the German Stock Corporation Act. Some companies also issue preferred shares. A preferred share (also known as a preference share, US: preferred stock) usually has no voting rights. To compensate for this, it receives preferential treatment, particularly with regard to dividend payments. As a rule, the stock market shows a difference in the price of ordinary shares - "common shares" in stock market jargon - and preferred shares - "preferred shares" in stock market jargon - of a company, which are hardly desirable for raiders. - See share, non-voting, protective share.
