## Definition

Unless otherwise defined, this is the amount carried forward from purchases and sales in a foreign currency (xeno currency) made by customers - mainly industrial companies, insurance companies and funds - at foreign exchange dealers: brokers and banks. This balance can be used under ordinary circumstances as a measure of buying pressure for a particular currency. - However, buy and sell orders also reflect the expectations of generally well-informed principals regarding the economy or currency area in question. For this reason, the flow of orders - among other things - can also be an important feature in connection with economic diagnosis. - See foreign exchange trading, foreign exchange market, market makers, exchange rate, two-pillar principle - Cf. Monthly Report of the Deutsche Bundesbank of January 2008, p. 18 f. (Expectation-driven nature of output flow).
