## Definition

Another name for European banking supervision, which has been based at the ECB since 2014. - The term "supervisory mechanism" has been criticized by linguists as inappropriate and incorrect because of the word element "mechanism." For in German, "mechanism" is widely understood to mean a coherent whole of technical components in which the movement of one part necessarily, automatically causes the movement of other parts, as especially in a machine. However, in English "mechanism" is also very broadly understood as "process by which something is done" and as "regulary manner of acting to achieve an end". - See acataphasia, analyst rating, anglicisms, stock market language, democracy deficit, financial language, jargon, subsidiarity principle, intelligibility. - Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2013, pp. 82 ff. (introducing the SSM). Attention: The financial encyclopedia is protected by copyright and may only be used for private purposes without express consent!
