## Definition

Formerly, in the course of compulsory enforcement (CH: Betreibung; compulsory enforcement) of a claim, a payment to be made in advance to the authority by a creditor in the application for arrest when the debtor is requested to be imprisoned. This was to cover the expenses for the food (Atz: therefore sometimes also Atzgeld and Atzungsgeld) of the arrested person (Arrestant; prisoner).
