## Definition

When cash is withdrawn from an ATM, the amount drawn is immediately debited from the account (pay-now principle). Compared with credit cards, debit cards involve lower or no fees for the cardholder and for the merchant. - See chip card, counterfeit card, money, electronic, ATM blocking, cash card, credit card, ticketing, electronic. - Cf.
