## Definition

Securities which - were worthless from the outset, including counterfeits, - have since become worthless, or - appear worthless under the circumstances. These two last-mentioned types can, if they are in paper form, possibly achieve an even considerable market value again later as collector's items. - The tendency to collect historical securities is also called scripophily, although this term refers in a broader sense to the collector's passion for old documents as a whole. - See Absence capitalism, cheap copy, dingo stocks, false advice, financial vultures, over-the-counter trading, frontrunning, secret tip, money laundering, ghetto banking, glamour stocks, hawala, high-risk countries, Internet offerings, price manipulation, offshore financial centers, make-up, papers, toxic, scalping, shadow banking, sham transactions, subprime crisis, underground banking, securitization papers, exchange houses, angle brokers. - Cf.
