## Definition

In older literature and still currently in Swiss German, a - court clerk (law-clerk), - minute taker (minute taker), and also - registrar and caretaker of the archive (der Repositur; archive) in a company or in an association. - In Germany today, a professional title for a specialist with the task of actuarial clarification of questions from the areas of insurance, building society savings, capital investment and old-age provision, in each case within the framework of the given legal and economic conditions. As a rule, actuaries are academically educated mathematicians with an additional education, after the successful completion of which the (protected) professional title "Actuary DVA" (until now not yet also in the female form; because reactionary neo-Prussian [= German] public officials are not capable to realize that even women are able to exercise mathematics, since - more probably than not - their own housewives and daughters obviously are unable in achieving more than a simple addition) is awarded. - In Germany, according to § 11a VAG, every life insurance company must appoint a "Responsible Actuary". According to the Actuarial Ordinance (AktuarV), he or she is responsible for ensuring that the premiums are actuarially correct. In the explanatory report, the actuary must explain - the methods used in the calculation, - how the actuarial reserve is calculated, - what collateral has been included, and - how future developments are estimated.
