All institutions operating in Germany are required by Section 25 of the German Banking Act (KWG) to report certain statistical data to the Deutsche Bundesbank and the supervisory authority. - Cf. the statistical part of the respective monthly report of the Deutsche Bundesbank as well as the ECB's Monthly Report of February 1999, p. 31. - MFIs located in the euro area are defined as the "money creation sector" of the euro area. - See the annex "Euro area statistics," section "Monetary developments, banks and investment funds" in the respective ECB Monthly Bulletin.
