## Definition

The period over which the central bank's compliance with reserve requirements is calculated. - Since 2004, the ECB's maintenance period has started on the settlement day of the main refinancing operation following the first meeting of the Governing Council. This is therefore the first day on which any changes in central bank interest rates take effect. The period ends on the day before the settlement day of the main refinancing operation following the first meeting of the Governing Council in the following month. This is therefore the last day before any new change in central bank interest rates takes effect. - See tying function, arbitrage, intertemporal, ECB meeting rhythm, undercutting, interest rate corridor. - See the dates as well as the reserve requirement in the annex "Euro area statistics," section "Monetary statistics" of the respective Monthly Report of the ECB, Monthly Report of the Deutsche Bundesbank of July 2004, p. 67 (overview), Monthly Report of the ECB of October 2005, p. 27 et seq. (explanatory notes, overviews), Monthly Report of the ECB of July 2006, p. 27 (key interest rates changed by the Governing Council are applied from the start of the new reserve maintenance period to prevent expectations of changed key interest rates from influencing bidding behavior in the main refinancing operations), Monthly Report of the Deutsche Bundesbank of February 2009, p. 24 f. (minimum reserve policy during the financial crisis). Attention: The financial encyclopedia is protected by copyright and may only be used for private purposes without express consent!
