## Definition

Allgemein in der Rechnungslegung die Anpassung des Buchwerts (carrying amount) eines Postens an die tatsächlichen Wertverhältnisse (activities of a company with the aim of adjusting all items in bookkeeping to true market prices). – Im besonderen bei einem Institut die Abschreibungen auf ein Darlehn, das als ganz oder teilweise uneinbringlich gilt (if a bank considers a loan is uncollectable, it sets aside in a special reserve account a quota of earnings equal to the difference between unpaid principal and the market value of the loan.
